A fume hood provides a controlled ventilated workspace for handling volatile or hazardous chemicals including concentrated bleach solutions, ethanol, acetic acid, and certain growth regulators (e.g., 2,4-D). Never confuse a fume hood with a laminar flow hood — a laminar flow hood does not protect the user from chemical vapors. Use a fume hood for any procedure involving chemicals that pose inhalation risk.
