Lab workflow
Lab rooms
Rooms let you track which physical space or zone a culture is in at every stage of its lifecycle — from the transfer hood through the growth chamber, cold storage, and out to the greenhouse.
Assign a room when you move a culture
When adding or editing a stage, pick the room or zone from a searchable dropdown. The selection is linked by ID so renames stay in sync automatically.
Code and alias for seamless imports
Give each room a short code (e.g. CULT-1) and comma-separated import aliases. Batch imports and CSV uploads match those strings to the correct room automatically.
Live culture count per room
The room list and detail view show how many active plant and explant stages are currently assigned to each room, so you can see at a glance which zones are busy.
Capacity tracking
Set a vessel, rack, or shelf capacity and unit so the detail view can show a utilisation percentage alongside the active culture count.
Manage rooms in Settings
Create, edit, archive, and upload a photo for each room from Settings → Lab. Seeding starter rooms from a template takes one click.
Archive keeps history intact
Archived rooms are hidden from the stage picker but all historical stage links remain. You can restore an archived room at any time.
Room categories
Map your lab to the right zone types
Each room has a category that helps filter views and future reporting. Use the category that best describes the primary workflow in that space.
Aseptic Transfer
Laminar flow hood work, inoculation, and sub-culture.
Culture Incubation
Growth chambers, shelves, and light racks.
Media Prep
Autoclave, mixing, and media dispensing.
Cold Storage
Refrigerators and cold-hold chambers.
Acclimatization
Weaning, misting benches, and humidity tents.
Greenhouse
Outdoor or glass-house transfer zones.
Getting started
Set up rooms in three steps
- 1
Open Settings → Lab
Go to Settings, choose Lab, and scroll to the Rooms section. Click "Seed defaults" to create a set of starter rooms based on common tissue-culture workflows, or use "Add room" to create custom zones.
- 2
Give each room a code and aliases
Short codes like CULT-1 or COLD-A appear in dropdowns and badges. Import aliases let batch uploads map room names from spreadsheets to the right room without manual matching.
- 3
Select the room when you add or edit a stage
When logging a new stage or updating an existing one, choose the room from the dropdown. It stays linked even if you rename the room later.
Plan limits
The number of active rooms depends on your plan: Hobby supports 3, Pro supports 10, and Teams supports 30. Archived rooms do not count toward the limit, so archiving unused rooms frees up a slot without losing any historical data.
