A combined magnetic stirrer and heated surface for preparing tissue culture media. Essential for dissolving agar, salts, and reagents homogeneously. Stir on moderate heat to dissolve all components before adjusting pH and autoclaving. PTFE-coated stir bars resist chemical corrosion and are autoclave-safe. The heated platform also serves for pouring cooled, pre-autoclaved agar media into vessels.
Hot surface risk. Never leave media unattended on high heat — overheated agar can foam and boil over. Use heat-resistant gloves when handling heated glassware. Ensure the stir bar spins freely before stepping away; a stationary bar on a hot plate can cause superheating. Keep flammable solvents away from the heated surface.
