Culture media ingredient
One of the earliest defined plant nutrient solutions (Knop, 1860), still used as a minimal basal medium for mosses, bryophytes, ferns, and aquatic plants. Contains only calcium nitrate, potassium nitrate, magnesium sulfate, and potassium phosphate — far simpler than modern MS. Useful as a base for customized minimal formulations or non-fastidious species.
